Things have finally slowed down for me. (Although the new house still needs arranged, I own more books than than I know what to do with. I hate moving.)
I'm in the MFO team at teamchess.org and I see that there is basically two de la maza teams in the U1800 section. Should be fun.
When / if I play with fellow MDLM bloggers I will analyze my game on my blog so my opp can see what I was thinking.
I'm pretty low rated for U1800 but I think I will be fourth board pretty regularly because the person who is listed as first board for us only wants to be a sub. Plus I did well last "season."
I've been playing fritz more than online lately because I don't have high speed internet and dail up drives me crazy. Although when I do play at FICS I refuse to play blitz because of high lag times so that is good at least. (But it is hard to find a long time control game so if anybody wants to play a longer game, say 30 30 or greater, let me know.)
I still read everybody's blog when I'm at work, and it looks like everyone is doing good (especially CD).

I like longer games. What's your handle at fics?
Hello kightwiz, my handle on fics is dreadpiratejosh. What is your handle and when do you usually get online?
Hi Dread, my handle is 'taerone', and I usually connect in the afternoon(server time). I'll +notify you.
Hey knightwiz, did you get rid of your knightwizzy account?
PS
Yes PS, in the months I was away from chess.
sounds good, I'll put you on my notify list as well.
DPJ,
When you play Fritz, how do you set up the game? Do you modify the personalities that are available? What strength do you set it at?
Josh, I have you to thank in part. Your comment about my rating plateau was honest and fair. It also served to spur me on to play better chess. One of my best motivators tends to be when somebody presents me with reality and says "prove it." You done good, kid.
PMD, I usually play around with the personalities and I usually use Assasin and just change the strength to around 1550 - 1650. Sometimes higher so I can lose badly. I also really like the sparring mode for longer games. What do you usually play with? Have you tried the sparring mode?
CD, I meant nothing by my comments about your rating. Did it spur you on to study more or just focus more? Because if that's all it takes I'll gladly make sure to stop by your blog every few weeks and talk trash, :-)
I think it helped me focus more. When I was a senior in high school, I was 1st chair in our school's chess club. When we were preparing for state, I mentioned to one of my teammates that I had a goal of going undefeated at 1st chair in the team tournament. He quickly told me that I'd never make it and that shooting for 4 out of 6 games was a more realizable goal. I managed to pull off all 6 wins and received a medal for my accomplishment.
It's a personal failing of mine. I never "get serious" about a goal I set for myself until someone tells me I can't accomplish it.
Anyhoo, as a side note, I did manage to lose last night's game at the chess club. The person I was preparing to play actually lost to a Class D player last week, so I ended up playing someone else. That person played a really solid game against my Scandinavian, and I managed to misevaluate myself into a bad position. A tactical shot finished me off. Ah, well. So it goes....
DPJ,
I have yet to dive into the world of "versus Fritz" chess. Mostly because I found the whole handicap vs friend vs personality thing a little difficult to understand. I was wondering if just adjusting the strength of the personalities gives one a good game, and it sounds like it does. I have been playing with Chessmaster 10th edition, mostly because it has such a huge variety of opponents.
PMD,
To be honest I think the Chessmaster opponents give a better game. (Plus the chessmaster program is a whole lot simpler to use).
CD, sorry to hear you lost, but I'm sure you'll get him next time. Good luck on getting to 1600 in the next month!
Josh
